چکیده

Microplastics have been found in all hemispheres of the world. However, studies on microplastics are mainly conducted Europe, North America, and East Asia. Few reported Southeast Asian region, where a large number plastic waste is disposed improperly into water. This study investigated abundance characteristics surface water Chao Phraya River (Thailand), Citarum (Indonesia), Saigon (Vietnam). Samples were collected at urban estuary zones these rivers. The numbers 80±60, 12±6, 68±20 items/m3 Phraya, Citarum, River, respectively. At zones, 48±8, 0±0 (0.08±0), 42±5 with morphologies fragments fibres Polypropylene polyethylene particles most abundant samples. Since selected rivers play important roles supply aquaculture activities, presence may negatively impact human health. Potential management strategies to minimize microplastic problems also proposed this study.

Forest fires, air pollution, and mortality in southeast Asia.

I assess the population health effects in Malaysia of air pollution from a widespread series of fires that occurred in Indonesia between April and November of 1997. I describe how the fires occurred and why the associated air pollution was so widespread and long lasting. The main objective is to uncover any mortality effects and to assess how large and important they were. I also investigate wh...

Aircraft measurements over Europe of an air pollution plume from Southeast Asia – aerosol and chemical characterization

An air pollution plume from Southern and Eastern Asia, including regions in India and China, was predicted by the FLEXPART particle dispersion model to arrive in the upper troposphere over Europe on 24–25 March 2006. According to the model, the plume was exported from Southeast Asia six days earlier, transported into the upper troposphere by a warm conveyor belt, and travelled to Europe in a fa...

The Indian Ocean experiment: widespread air pollution from South and Southeast Asia.

The Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX) was an international, multiplatform field campaign to measure long-range transport of air pollution from South and Southeast Asia toward the Indian Ocean during the dry monsoon season in January to March 1999. Surprisingly high pollution levels were observed over the entire northern Indian Ocean toward the Intertropical Convergence Zone at about 6 degrees S....

Haemoglobinopathies in Southeast Asia

In Southeast Asia α-thalassaemia, β-thalassaemia, haemoglobin (Hb) E and Hb Constant Spring (CS) are prevalent. The abnormal genes in different combinations lead to over 60 different thalassaemia syndromes, making Southeast Asia the locality with the most complex thalassaemia genotypes. The four major thalassaemic diseases are Hb Bart's hydrops fetalis (homozygous α-thalassaemia 1), homozygous ...
